What image size I should use in Social Media ?
The answer to this question is slightly changing as we are in 2021… Think everything “more vertical” with mobile first strategy in mind. Particularly the social media things like FB, Twitter images, WordPress blog featured images etc. I am surprised to see lots of vertical and big images are taking over the internet.. I was accustomed to big horizontal images only.. These big vertical media things are all created with mobile readers in mind and its perfectly fine for desktop/laptop readers too. The 16:9 dimension and horizontal is becoming more and more old school just like the desktop computers, so its better to test multiple sizes like 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 and see which one best performs for YOUR audience be in your website or in your social media profiles.
My rule of thumb is..
If the content is more of business oriented and of education type etc. Then go with 16:9 horizontal dimension
The more it becomes media, entertainment or social media or for the YOUTH audience then go 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 sizes. They are the TikTok folks and they do not use desktops too often as you know 🙂
Note: LinkedIn is full of top level executives and old school business folks who take decisions too quickly and they do serious business in desktop and laptops so for those users use professionally designed 16:9 images to get a good first impression.
