List of plugins and themes to avoid

Backup plugins:

Its highly risky to run any backup plugins and leave them always active. If you wanted to use a backup plugin then you should make sure it satisifes all conditions:

  • check the plugin if updated recently
  • compatible with the latest WP version
  • reviewed highly by other users

Also you should never backup files. You should only backup selective database tables, after trying the default wordpress xml export option.  Once done with your export, you should immediately disable the plugin.

Security plugins that are poorly maintained and ranked:

A lot of security plugins cause performance issues due to their always-on and scanning functionalities. In fact they could add more vulnerabilities than helping secure your site.

Be cautious about using any caching plugins.

Be cautious about using too many “optimization” plugins, the optimization plugins could end up conflicting with the code of WordPress
