Chapter 16: Plan pillar posts and site internal links

Plan pillar posts and site internal links

Ideally your blog should have few pillar posts or cornerstone content that does the most of heavy lifting with respect to delivering content. Like a long form blog post, detailed video or landing page.

Your other blog posts should support the pillar posts or cornerstone content. If you are starting, then plan it that way and ideally those pillar posts should be “pages” rather than blog posts as posts are mostly chronological content and pages are static content that is more evergreen compared to blog posts.

If you are not able to make major design changes, then you can make pillar posts as regular blog posts. But you should note them down specifically and point lot of internal links towards those posts or pages.

Your goal should be to move the users from blog post content towards your cornerstone content
